I’ve just read Some Remarks by Neal Stephenson. This is a collection of non-fiction writing, such as interviews, newspaper and magazine articles, essays and also a couple of short stories. When I saw Stephenson at the Edinburgh International Book Festival last month he read a few excerpts from the book, and I ended up picking up a copy there. I enjoyed the book overall, but as with any collection there were inevitably some pieces that were better than others. I particularly liked the two short stories, and the interviews with Stephenson were really interesting too. There were also a couple of great essays on geek culture which were very good, and those were the pieces he’d read at the book festival. I’m not sure what the mass appeal of the book would be, but to existing fans of Stephenson I would definitely recommend it.
